BUILDING PERMITS & INSPECTIONS |
INFORMATIONTown Buildings permits are required for:
- All remodeling or improvements which exceed $ 1,000 in value (and are to include the cost of labor/ even when done by the individual property owner).
- All projects which include any electrical work, plumbing, or heating changes or modifications (regardless of cost).
- All projects which alter any structural wall or support for an existing building (regardless of the cost)/
Dane County Permits are required for:
- All new buildings, additions, decks, or cement slabs, which cover ground which was not previously covered (regardless of the cost).
- All buildings, additions, decks or slabs, which are planned within the required setback lines for the particular zoning district in which they are located (regardless of the costs for the desired improvements).
If you are unsure if your project requires a building permit, it is highly recommended that you contact the Town Clerk at (608) 846-3800, the Town Building Inspector at (608) 225-4140 or (608) 226-0364, before you begin a building or improvement project.A certificate of compliance must be obtained from the Town Clerk, or Town Board, and presented to the Town Building Inspector for any project which requires a building permit, prior to the building inspector issuing a town building permit.
